Sturtevant, Wisconsin, April 30, 2015– BRP's closed-loop facility water system was awarded a Sustainable Business Award for Sustainable Process for its Sturtevant, Wisconsin facility. The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council and Cool Choices selected BRP's process entry from a very highly qualified field of nominees and praised BRP's commitment to sustainability.

"BRP was a clear favorite of the judges for the 2015 Earth Day Sustainable Business Awards," according to Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the WI Sustainable Business Council. "The comprehensive approach used by BRP in designing and operating their Evinrude outboard engine test facilities indicated both a deep commitment to the principles of sustainability and a smart approach to both energy and water efficiency."

BRP's Sturtevant, Wisconsin manufacturing facility recently renovated its engineering and product development center to include major infrastructure improvements supporting various engine test laboratories. Creating an environment that would accurately simulate the recreational marine environment, the Evinrude team focused on a facility water system that substantially minimized water usage and consumption, keeping in line with their commitment to sustainability.

The final design, a closed-loop system that leverages the excess heat produced when testing outboard engines, also provides water for various processes throughout the facility from a 500,000 (1.9 million litre) gallon tank used for engine testing. This closed-loop process earned the team top honors.

"We're very proud of what we've built here at BRP," said Jeff Wasil, engineering manager, Emissions Testing, Certification and Regulatory Development. "Our cross-functional team designed an engine endurance test center, water filtration system and energy recovery systems that allowed for the successful development of fuel-efficient and low emission marine outboard engines."

Wasil says BRP's reliable and sustainable filtration system has saved more than 22 million gallons (83.3 million litres) of water, which equates to US$175,000 in associated water, sewage and wastewater treatment fees.

The sustainable water testing facility was also integral in the company's launch of the new Evinrude E-TEC G2 engine. The bold new engine parallels the center's call for sustainability in its increased fuel efficiency—15 percent more than competitive engines. The Evinrude manufacturing facility is also home base for research, development and design of all Evinrude E-TEC engines 15 hp to 300 hp outboard engines.

Since the launch of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engine this past June, it has also won the coveted Innovation Award at the Miami International Boat Show, an international Red Dot design award for high design quality and numerous international boat show recognitions.

BRP's Evinrude engine line-up from 3.5 hp to 300 hp offers customers superior value across a full range of applications. Engines are available at authorized Evinrude dealerships worldwide.
