BRP IS THE FIRST MANUFACTURER TO OFFER ATV MODELS EQUIPPED WITH ABS: EXPERIENCE RIDING TO THE FULLEST
- Can-Am becomes the first brand to offer ATV models equipped with the ABS (anti-lock braking system) technology
- The new Can-Am ATV line-up meets the new EU regulations
Coral Bay, Cyprus, November 8, 2017 – BRP (TSX:DOO), a global leader in powersports, is proud to unveil its 2018 Can-Am ATV line-up equipped with the ABS (anti-lock braking system), a first in the off-road vehicle industry. The 2018 Can-Am Outlander and Renegade models are compliant with the new EU regulations and therefore allow users to make no compromise on the performance and their riding experience.
Approved under the new European Union T3b category, these new ABS-equipped models can reach a maximum speed of 105 km/h. Vehicles not equipped with ABS will be limited to 60km/h.
The ABS technology installed on the new Can-Am Outlander and Renegade models was developed specifically for ATVs in partnership with Bosch, a pioneer in this field. To ensure that it performs optimally in the various uses of ATVs in Europe, it has been tested through a comprehensive engineering program that included more than 40,000 kilometres on a variety of surfaces, including mud, snow, pavement, gravel and dirt.
Over the last three weeks, dealers, distributors and media representatives from all over Europe have discovered and tested the new ABS-equipped Outlander and Renegade models. The extensive line-up answers the needs of all users, from utility-oriented consumers to recreational and sport riders.

"With this new line-up, Can-Am once again demonstrates its ingenuity and leadership on the market," says Steve Pelletier, BRP's Vice-President and Regional General Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). "Dealers, distributors and all those who have witnessed the vehicles in action have been impressed by the performance and the riding experience offered by the new ABS-equipped Outlander and Renegade models."
"The ABS technology applied to the Can-Am ATVs not only maintains stability when braking on slick surfaces, but gives consistent, predictable responsiveness by preventing wheel lockup on any terrain," explains Renald Plante, Director of Engineering for Can-Am ATV. "Furthermore, in 4WD mode and during acceleration, Can-Am's ABS also detects loss of traction on the front tires and compensates. Thanks to the brake torque control system, braking is applied to the slipping wheel, automatically transferring torque to the one with better grip until forward traction is restored. The system also uses drag torque control to manage engine braking and improve the vehicle stability off-throttle, preventing lockups on surfaces like ice."
The new Can-Am ATV models equipped with the ABS technology will be available as of January 2018 throughout the entire Can-Am European network.
And BRP is not stopping there. "Next year, Can-Am will introduce a range of Maverick Trail side-by-side vehicles also equipped with ABS," reveals Pelletier. Stay tuned!"
